Studies
I began my musical studies at the Royal Flemish Academy of Music in
Antwerp (Belgium), receiving the solo diploma for flute and the first prize for chamber music at the
age of 18.
While attending the Academy of Music I also completed my high school diploma.
At the same time I was able, with the help of a scholarship from the Belgian government, to attend
the University of Music in Cologne as a Young Student beginning at the age of 14, where I studied
with Prof. Schwegler, principal flutist of the WDR.
After completing my studies in Antwerp I continued my education at the University of Music in
Cologne. In 1979 I received the solo diploma with distinction in the class of Prof. Schwegler.
I was awarded a scholarship by the Swiss government in order to continue my studies with one of the
greatest flute virtuosos, Peter-Lukas Graf, at the Music Conservatory in Basel. I completed my
studies there with distinction in 1982.
Competitions
Awards were won in the following competitions:
- 1973 Trompconcours for the Benelux countries in Eindhoven (the Netherlands)
- Markneukirchen in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR)
- International Festival of Youth Orchestras in Aberdeen (GB)
- 1983 Gold Medal in the George Cziffra Competition (Paris) followed by a concert with the Master
himself
- 1985 ARD International Competition in Munich (Germany)
Teaching
From 1977 (at the age of 18) until 1983 I taught at the Academy of
Music in Mechelen and at the Academy of Music in Essen (both in Belgium).
Two years of teaching at the University of Music in Stuttgart followed.
Since October 1996 I have had a professorship at the University of Music in Antwerp.
In October 2000 I became Professor of flute at the University of Music in Saarbr�cken.

International Master Classes and Jury Activity
Since 1984 I have given Master Classes in Belgium, France, Germany and
Holland, to name a few.
In 1989 I was a member of the jury of the International Kuhlau Competition for flute in Uelzen
(Germany) and in 2004 of the ARD International Competition (flute) in Munich.
Since 2018 permanent member of the DAAD sholarschip competition, for germans as also for foreigners, in Bonn.

Orchestra activity
From 1978 until 1983 I was principal flute of the Orchestra of the
European Community under the baton of Karajan, Barenboim, Abbado and others.
In 1983 I became principal flute of the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Stuttgart, the SWR.
In 1986 I was principal flute of the Professional World Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan (participation by
recommendation only).
At the recommendation of the conductor Erich Leinsdorf I played as temporary principal flute of the
New York Philharmonic Orchestra in the summer of 1990. I have also played in the Berlin Philharmonic
Orchestra as a substitute for principal flutist Emanuel Pahud.
I am a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
Numerous records and CDs as well as recordings of televised concert broadcasts
are available.
